A Life

Here is another one of my poems I wrote a couple years back.  One of my favorites personally.  Enjoy!

A Life
There are those, and so many of them, convinced that life is too hard.
These ones, aware only of the struggle, the pain, the day-to-day things, are dying.
A disease of the mind that infects, imbibes, whispers as sweetly as the devil himself.
It convinces.
It promises.
It gives a hope, to take away the struggle. They agree.
Soon, slowly, they forget.
Their friends, their family, other people.
They slip away, the awareness fades, and things dim.  They lose color, vitality, life.
They, no, You... lose an essence.  You become the same.   Uniform, unchanging.
Like a still, gray corridor, forbidding and silent.  You lose it all.
And slipping through your fingers, ideals become long forgot.
Yet all is not lost.
Somewhere, beneath the uniform, the repetitive, lies a hope.
It flees through the gray corridors, looking for an escape, an exit.
And from day-to-day it looks, ever searching, lost in your world of conformity.
It hopes, it prays, it persuades, it pleads. Hoping you'll listen.
Listen to it's voice and give a little.
Listen to it's voice and change, break the ice.
Listen to it.  Let it out, and let life begin.
